Workgroups & Initiatives

HIMSS Medical Banking Project reconstituted former workgroups under a new Charter. We are supporting three new Taskforces, that may be changed from time to time, as approved by the HIMSS MBProject Advisory Council. These Taskforces include:

Privacy & Security Taskforce

This taskforce will oversee the administration and roll out of the new HIMSS MBProject Gold Seal self-assessment program. In addition, the group is developing other areas of content that will help industry stakeholders to manage data privacy and security issues. Projects that are slated (but not yet approved) for CY2010-2011 include: (1) creation of HIPAA Compliance Guide for Banks and Financial Institutions; and, (2) oversee development of the industry's first HIPAA Privacy and Security Online Training Program for Banks and Financial Institutions (developed in 2003 and now being redeployed).

Revenue Cycle Improvement Taskforce

This taskforce will oversee the administration and marketing of the "DRI Tool," (dispute resolution initiative), a program that is rationalizing myriad denial codes in claims processing. The taskforce will also engage other issues. Projects that are slated (but not yet approved) for CY2010-2011 include: (1) Creation of a Medical Banking Best Practices Guide; (2) Support HIMSS webinars that will be produced around medical banking content areas; (3) Support an active association liaison and collaboration program with other industry groups; (4) support a potential demonstration project with a global electronic funds transfer platform.

Health-Wealth Platform Taskforce

This taskforce will focus on the broad area of consumer engagement in health, lifestyle and healthcare and how the banking and financial services community can speed adoption of better practices. Projects that are slated (but not yet approved) for CY2010-2011 include: (1) Designing a "Bank-enabled Health Information Exchange" pilot program and potentially implementing it as a demonstration project; (2) creation of independent HSA/CDH industry surveys; (3) Developing a new series of "Health-Wealth Futures" briefings that can be published in the literature; (4) Support related association / industry group liaison activity.
