A Medical Banking Road Map for America explores the emerging technology, infrastructure and credit intersection between banking and healthcare. MBProject's convened five workgroups that presented final recommendations at the Third National Medical Banking Institute included in this ground-breaking publication.

Introduction

The healthcare industry in America is in a dramatic state of flux.  Of the key building blocks that form our healthcare system, (training/education, delivery, financing), the area that seems to be most in transition today is healthcare operations and financing.  The administrative component of this area has been targeted by the body politic and commerce for an "extreme makeover".

The numbers tell a dismal story - we will spend $1.9 trillion on healthcare in 2005 and receive a relative benefit of half that compared to other countries...Tucked within the maze of regulatory and industry skirmishes to reduce costs a new approach is gathering momentum called "medical banking"...

Some examples of banking extension of IOS platforms into the community include aggregating the electronic medical record in an online banking portal, implementation of consumer prescription card programs to support the Medicare Modernization Act and supporting the creation of banks of medical records. As this occurs, it is likely that more workflow processes will be pushed towards the consumer...
